Miss Equality World coronation, held on December 13 in the Projection Room. The esteemed panel of judges was within the LGBTQ community in Singapore. I would like to honorable mention that one of the guest speakers, Madam Amy Tashiana was one of the pioneers of transwoman, a former model, a performer of the old Boom Boom Room cabaret, and an advocate in the 70s through 90s. Seeing her speaking on stage brings back a nostalgic feeling that we once shared.
Despite the tightened measures announced by the Singapore authority due to CoVid-19, the event was a success and truly inspiring. The organization hopes to celebrate the aspiring new upcoming trans community of the next generation in the coronation of the new queen. Qatrisha, the new queen will be participating in the upcoming Miss Trans International 2022 in Barcelona come March. In June, she will be competing in Bali for Miss Equality World 2022 with other international contestants.

Airbrush Spray Tan
With the upcoming Manhunt Singapore 2021 competition, we are stoke to be sponsoring these hunks to look their best on the stage. Airbrush tan or spray tan is one of the treatments that Wax Factor provided. It showcases their physique to the fullest potential. Defining the well-sculpted bodies, showing a stage presence with just visual appeal.
Clinical studies have shown that indoor tanning beds can lead to health issues by exposure to harmful UV rays, which can cause wrinkles, unwanted premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer. Doing it au naturel with the scorching sun is time-consuming, and if prolonged, it can damage your skin. The only way to get a safe tan is to go sunless! Sunless tanning offers the same results as its counterparts while not damaging your skin.
If you need to do any hair removal, waxing or laser should be done one week before your first spray tan session. For shaving, a few days before. Your body hair won’t interfere with your tan, so you can leave it at whatever level you feel comfortable, and spray tan does look natural if you go to the right salon with the skillful hands of the technician. Choose from an organic spray tan solution that has more benefits. Maintaining your spray tan is easy, by moisturizing your body daily, not forgetting to your sunscreen. It will leave you with a longer-lasting tan. If you are fair naturally, you may want to do 2-3 sessions for that bronze glowing results.
Here are some do’s and don’ts to Airbrush Tan / Spray Tan
- Always shower, exfoliate and do any hair removal before your session. For some, you may want to exfoliate several times before your first session, if you are going for multiple coats.
- Use body lotions specially formulated for spray tan as it brings your skin pH balance.
- Ensure the spray tan is completely dry before dressing.
- Wear loose dark clothing to avoid any rub-off and flip-flops.
- Try to stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment before you wash off your spray tan.
- Shower off with only cold water without any soap. Hot water may shorten the result of your spray tan.
- Do not wear makeup, deodorants, perfumes, or any oil-based lotion. They can create a barrier to absorb the solution to stain the skin.
Elevate your aesthetic today for a trial of $49 (Usually priced at $69) on your first session.

Benefits of DPL Hair Removal
IPL hair removal has a very long successful method of long-term hair reduction. But when DPL hair removal was invented, it’s a breakthrough because there are no side effects of getting burnt during the treatment. Just cooling sensation from the handle head. It is a safe method used by thousands of people to remove and reduce unwanted hair growth.
#1: Get that DPL glow
DPL stands for ‘Dynamic Pulse Light’. It’s an advanced technology that uses a broad-spectrum light source that targets the hair follicles or the root of the growth. This treatment removes and reduces the hair growth in the treated body parts. DPL is also known for treating hyperpigmentation. It evens out the skin tone, making the epidermis glow after the treatment.
#2: No more ingrown hairs
Trust the process! DPL, IPL, or even laser hair removal will improve your ingrown hairs situation. Unlike shaving, the skin is with friction with the blade against the hair growth. It will cause ingrown problems.
Waxing, sugaring, and depilating may improve the issue by 10% but will not eliminate the underlying problem. Some ingrown hairs are stuck in between the skin. If it progresses and becomes infected, it may become more swollen, red, and painful. If the infection gets worse, there may be some pus.
#3: Stay fuzz-free longer!
You are less likely to be hairy in between treatments as soon as hairs appear on the surface. Customers are encouraged to shave them away. The hair regrowth will be sparse and fined. It means that while you are waiting for the laser hair removal to work, you can remain fuzz-free, unlike with waxing and other hair removal methods where you must have long enough surface hair before a session.
#4: It gives results
Depending on your current hair situation, most customers see visible results from 3 to 6 sessions. You can achieve semi-permanent long-term hair-free if you have little body hair, at the beginning. And, if you are hairy, expect to see at least 50% to 60% in hair reduction. In short, DPL hair removal is very successful and, it gives you the desired results.
#5: It’s cost-effective
When you begin your journey with DPL hair removal, you will no longer need to spend your money on consistent wax salon visits, depilatory creams, sugaring, shaving, or other methods of hair removal. It may have cost slightly more upfront, but in the long-term, you save so much more money!

The 8 Benefits of Waxing
You have heard it all before, the good, the bad, and the ugly about waxing. Well, we are here to praise waxing as one of the best hair removal methods, just because it is. The results: silky smooth skin with finer regrowth – guaranteed every single time!
#1. Less regrowth in-between appointments
There is a good reason why regrowth seems slower when you wax. The waxing process usually lasts 3-4 weeks, sometimes 4-5 weeks if you are lucky. When you shave, the razor is only cutting the hair shaft on the skin’s surface. As you can imagine, this is the reason why everyone will ask you to stay away from the razor if you’ve chosen to wax regularly. Once you have the habit of doing it regularly, you will see less regrowth once you start waxing consistently.
#2. Gentle exfoliation
Waxing strips off the outermost layer of skin, which means that your skin will feel smoother and brighter, but keep in mind that waxing is not exfoliation. It could remove dead skin cells sitting on the skin. Exfoliate your skin a few days before your appointment. And exfoliate them again five days after your waxing appointment. The pores will be closed by then. Post-waxing exfoliation is one of the ways to keep ingrown hairs at bay.
#3. Less prone to inflammation
Does repeated shaving lead to chronic skin inflammation? The answer to that is YES! Friction from the blade gives way to inflammation and discoloration to the skin. The skin reacts to inflammation by becoming thicker, and melanocytes (the pigment-making cells in the skin) become more active. Discoloration is more common in darker skin types. One salon appointment a month means less inflammation and even less chance of developing skin discoloration.
#4. Minimize the itching
When hair regrowth surfaces, the itching starts and giving you a prickly sensation. When you wax, hair will take longer to reach the epidermis; therefore, you will feel smooth for much longer. Once you start waxing, you’ll be less bothered by this prickly sensation.
#5. Avoid razor cuts
When you’re using a razor blade, there’s a high risk of cutting yourself because your hands are cover in soap foam that might be slippery when you try to slide the razor on your skin. When you wax, the professional will remove your hair with a swift motion and tweeze out the stubborn hairs for that clean finish.
#6. Eliminate ingrown hairs
It is imperative to use the correct waxing technique to avoid ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are hairs that regrow back into the skin and sometimes in a different direction, causing swelling and red bumps. The pull has to be swift and, the skin needs to be stretch while going at the procedure. However, you should know that you might be especially prone to ingrown hairs with any hair removal method. Fortunately, exfoliation, spot correction serum, or paste can be a great help against this issue.
#7. Soft wax or Hard wax
There are many different types of wax. Your waxing specialist will choose mainly from soft body waxes and hard body waxes for the intimate area and strip wax for smaller areas such as the face. Different type of wax works differently but with the same goal, to remove your hair safely. Various types of body parts need different strengths in hair removal.
#8. Enjoy undivided attention
It is the only reason you should always choose to have professional waxing rather than DIY at home. Our therapist has gone through proper training. We are experts with the right techniques and a wealth of work experience under our belt. When you wax, your skin will be stress-free and, if you do it wrong, it is at risk of various complications. Go to a professional waxer instead of trying to save a bit of money by doing it yourself.

Braving Your First Brazilian
Experiencing your first Brazilian wax is almost like losing your virginity to your first – in this case, it’s your first waxing salon. There are plenty of beauty salons that offer the service, alas not one shop is good with everything. It is almost like being a jack of all trades but master of none. The first step is to identify why you need it in the first place? Is it because of peer pressure or your better half? In the 80’s it is acceptable to have a bush down south, after the millennium, it is simply unacceptable. It is today’s modern beauty and grooming standards that society has deemed what is accepted. Times have changed and, people’s mindset has evolved.
During this pandemic, hygiene for both customers and therapists is a must. All disposables are used once and discard away. Staff required to disinfect on equipment and on surfaces of treatment table between visits. Ensure that they are no double-dipping policy in the hair removal salon that you frequent.
Many companies practice cost-cutting measures to ensure that they keep their salon operations costs low to yield high returns. The quality of the product in question namely, the soft or hard waxes used for your treatments play a vital role, after all, it is the product that removes your hair away from your skin. Use only premium quality products manufactured from the USA, Australia, and Europe. Do not skip pre and post-waxing products when they recommended them to you. It is because, after waxing, your pores are open and needed protection from the environment and polluted air. Remain hygienic is the key, as you are prone to infection if it is not taken care of at least for a few days after.
My first experience was very swift and almost hot. My therapist has quick lightning hands as she strips away the hard wax one after another while stretching my skin and holding it for a few seconds. I didn’t have time to react. But I’m glad that it happened that way.
Having the waxing experience is an intimate moment between the hair removal specialist and the customer. Different therapists have different skillsets and work experiences. The techniques and methodology vary from beauty brand to brand. In summary, do your due diligence before committing to your salon. Waxing is indeed addictive. It is like getting a tattoo. You are hopeful that it will last longer than just four to five weeks. The cycle would probably never end. Shaving causes ingrown issues as the hair shaft is distorted and, when hair regrowth occurs, the direction is all over the place. Waxing eliminates that problem, making your new growth of hairs finer and less stubborn.
Lastly, there are alternatives for hair removal if you are not brave enough for a Brazilian wax. Intense pulse light, dynamic pulse light, or even laser perform by doctors if you prefer, come with a higher price tag. These are semi to permanent results that gives people with a low threshold of pain. At the end of the day, pamper yourself! You are the only reason to get a Brazilian and, that’s a Brazilian reason enough.
